morrisons/coopers
« on: April 07, 2009, 15:30:58 PM »
according to the other forum it seems by all accounts that coopers is to close in may and morrisons arent to be opened until october...they are going to doa  complete refurb ( allegedly) so the staff are saying...... a few  have said they have been told this while in the store today......
if this is so.... they why have coopers been causing havok within the store by changing things all around.... it has been bedlam the past couple of weeks with everything all upside downa dn many aisles blocked off and everything moved around....    ( i get a shopping list already made out by my nan and its all done the way the shop used to be laid  out , now not applicable so im going up and down aisles like a looney looking for the stuff she wants...lol  ))  seems pointless moving everything around and changing the shelf edges from green to yellow like it has been started to be done

maybe old codger will confiirm this when he gets on here..... :)

Hi Ma, its getting terrible for finding stuff, and as you say aisles blocked off to, its getting to the stage now that they should start giving maps out as you go in the store to navigate your way round ;D
For some reason or other I had it in my mind that they were only going to be shut for approx 3 weeks, how wrong I was!! :( until October is a long time!

I think anyone with any sense has switched allegiances to Co-Op. Much better selection, particularly since the refurb.

I think someone has said it was to close for 3 weeks for a revamp.

" I was told today (unsubstantiated) that at the moment, Coopers will close at the end of May but Morrison's are not planning to re-open till at least the 1st October. Morrisons have told Coopers they don't want any of their stock. I've not heard anything about the Post Office. Don't take this as gospel, but disappointing (except for the Co op) if true."   quote from hermes...and others agreed with it as they were told the same from staff too

I expect that the more Morrisons looked at the stock, building, fixtures and fittings (including fridges and freezers), the more they realised that they need to start from scratch.

I reckon they will also re-configure the car park with spaces marked out in a more efficient and pretty way (eg. colours for parent and child, disabled etc).

Gutting the place, re-roofing it and fitting out from scratch will take at least 3 months, but allowing for holidays and delays, 4 months ......... hence it will take all June, July, August and September.

Must look on the bright side:  We will have a brand new Morrisons with all its proper fixtures, fittings and stock ..... and the freezers will work and the roof will not leak.

Also, the staff will be good as new ........ ie. properly trained.  No doubt a few will not make it through the training, but most will.

Personally, I think it will all be worth the wait ...... and Co-op and Tesco Express will do really good business in the meantime ......

I am confident that Post Office Ltd will arrange for a temporary PO in the town centre. They have been talking to the right people to arrange this. However, there is a chance that there may be no PO at all for a week or so if the temporary PO takes longer than hoped to arrange.

Fingers crossed that it turns out OK.

it doesnt matter how long they are going to shut down for...surely they should tell people officially when its shutting and why and for how long....

how are the elderly who shop there going to manage? what if co op is just that bit to far for them to get to on their own steam and thats more than likely as its on the outskirt of town... if morrisons dont let people know what going on then surely they will make other arrangement and wont bother going back at all once the renovations have been finished

i wonder how much is actual fact and how much is just staff saying what they think will happen. ???
the best morrisons can do is make a public statement then we will all know where we stand....
i doesnt make any differance to me... i shop at asda or morrisons in warminster anyway...but there are a lot of people who can jsut about make it to coopers on the mini bus......   co op will more than likely be out of the way for them AND  im not sure if they have seating outside to accomodate the elderly waiting for lifts/buses home
5 months is a long time to be shut.... and also a long time to be able to make other arrangements for shopping and get used to the idea and stay where they are....
also if its to be shut for 5 months or so then co op will have to get their act into gear..... more staff at the tills..... one on the fag counter and one till going is not adequate manning especially if they will get extra customers...... when we lived down kingfisher drive that was the one thing that drove me nuts..... having to wait in queues al lthe time even for just a pint of milk because there was only one till going most of the time...... there is no need for it..especially when you see workers chatting in aisles or passing biscuits to each other to put on shelves ect !!!!
time will tell...i guess we will all find out what going on in the end.....

More confusion over the future of the Post Office, this is gradually turning into a debacle.

Not really true, Pat.

You've been banging on that Westbury will lose the PO permanently. This article is about the possibility that no temporary PO may be provided until the permanent replacement arrives - whenever and wherever that will be.

It is clear that PO Ltd are committed to providing a PO in central Westbury ....

just to correct you i said if they could get away without opening a new office they would..................

there was no way the PO would use a mobile unit, simply because of the security threat..........

and why will it not happen very quickly, docent take a genius to work that out...........

everything decision royal mail and the post office make is down to the costs involved, anyone who thinks different is living in a fantasy world...........

you were the one banging on about westbury would have the temporary unit maybe not baldy?

I think Pat is right. If Royal Mail can get away with it they won't provide a new PO in Westbury.

Having said that it will be very bad public relations for them if they didn't. So they probably will at some time.

There are still too many people who have the "We must have a main post office" thought. But don't really know why. They will badger and protest Royal Mail until one is built. It's engrained in their souls. :(

I ask the question; Does Westbury really need a main PO?
