Ah! I knew someone would eventually come up with a good reason as to why Westbury needs a main PO. ;D

i would have preffered to see a post office in the high street to be honest........but f it has to be in the market place then so be it......
.
my reasons....

the mini bus which a lot of the older generation use to acces the high street to start with stops  right by the hight street ie barclays bank.... therefore the high street shops are easily acessesable..... the mini bus to my knowledge doesnt stop in the market place at all...so any of the pensioners or people who cant walk that far still be find it a struggle to walk from barclays bank to the market place and will have to rely on other to either get their money or do their transactions for them or transport them there instead.
unless of course the mini b us is going to change its route a bit and go to the market plaace as well as the high street..
will the market place parking area be able to cope with all the extra vehicles that having a p o there will make??
i agree the market place is looking 100% better since its transformation ( well done all) but why the need to put po there in the first place.... the business that are there are very speciallist and not something you go into every week even..... what is there?? 1 hotel 4 pubs  3 take aways and a one stop shop, not exactly a thriving area full of shops is it??

in the high street if that is the chosen area to put the new post office then there is already shops open and maybe struggling to survive and taking more people out of the area by getting them to go to the market place instead of the high street could be detrimental to a lot of th business in the high street.... many people couldnt manage to to "their business" in the market place and then get to the high street to do some more shopping or even get back to the bus stop

like a lot of others it doenst bother me where it goes as im capable of getting around and i have a car should i need to access it in othere places ie dilton, bratton, the ham..... im think more of the elder generation say t he 60's +    ( yes some 60+ strugle through ill health to get around )  or people who have trouble getting about as it is, sticks and walking frames, chairs,   these people are the ones who will find it the hardest to manage especially if they have no one to help them out on a more long term basis
maybe people who decide  where these places go and if they are a viable option should also do it from  the prospective of being unable to walk far...if they could only get about with the aid of a walking stick they would find out for themselves that barclays bank to the market place then back to the bank to catch the bus then walking back to their homes is going to be too far for many people..so they just wont do it.....they will have to rely of family to do it for t hem..if of course they have family nearby or even if they have family who want to start doing things like that for them on a more long term thing

just my thoughts looking at it through the eyes or the elderly ( i have spoken to a lot of my nans friends recently over this and these are the points that some of them have expressed) and some of the elderly custmoers i have helped out in coopers to ( i will talk and help anyone whho needs it)
like i said it really doesnt bother me where it goes in westbury so long as we get one..... i rarely use it for myself to be  honest. but i do pay my nans bills there

I am not saying the needs of the elderly or infirm should be ignored but maybe these persons should seriously look at alternative ways of receiving their pensions and paying their bills.

I might be wrong, but i understood that all pension and benefit payments had to be paid direct into a bank account now anyway? As for bills, i understand that some people like to deal with cash, but unfortunately the way of the world is changing and moving forward and as these services die off (not saying i agree with it) people will need to start looking at alternative ways of managing their money.

I have to say that since paying my car tax online and finding how easy it was, i have no wish to go back to standing in a queue behind various ebay sellers and their trolley full of parcels that they send!!

Speaking from a personal perspective, I do go there weekly, or more :) Might explain my waistline...

Yup - happy to oblige.

Sorry - my mistake.

Apology accepted, thanks. Next time don't be so ready to jump down my throat. End of...

Personally I think the best location for a PO would be the old Expressions store (opposite Brittania).

yes my thoughts exactly...which i said in another thread a while back when this all first came out... expressions would make an ideal post office.....all in view and not tucked away in some dark corner and easily overlooked.

missyd..... i kow what youre saying about having yor moneys put into bank accounts... but there still a lot of the older generation who didnt move to a bank anad still collect it weekly from the pos office as they dont have bank accounts... one particular old lady i was talking to last week when i bumoped into her in coopers  says she dont have a bank account at all only the post office account....and collects it weekly as she likes to see what moeny she has and sorts it al lout so she knows where she is each week with her bills ect.... some oldies find it hard to adapt to change

i do a lot of my stuff online as well..so much easier... or use martins and their paypoint service
