The chain averaged weekly sales of more than £1bn for the 53 weeks to the end of February - a total of £59.4bn - to take it past its 2008 profit total of £2.8bn.

That is a 15% increase in sales and 10% annual rise in profits.

It has also made a flying start to its new financial year, with group sales leaping 12% in the first six weeks.

In the UK alone the Tesco sales figure was £41.52bn, with a trading profit of £2.38bn.





seems strange they are reporting profits of the largest amount ever when so it seems everyone else is struggling to keep heads obove water..... lotsof people dismissed due to "economic climate"  and / or having large pay cuts
