Some really unhelpful comments are being made on the other forum about the proposal for a pedestrian crossing over the A350 by the Cedar Hotel.

The fact is that traffic engineers have done their surveys of need and traffic flows etc and have found the best and safest and most practical place to put the new crossing.

This is to deal with the need for a crossing by The Cedar Hotel, mainly for people walking between Green Lane and Wellhead Lane and who need to cross the busy A350. Traffic here is often speeding and traffic lights are needed to halt the traffic properly at a crossing.

The announcement last week was that the crossing has been designed, approved and funded and will be installed shortly.

Mr Dark, headteacher at Matravers, specifically asked for this crossing. When it is installed, the kids will be told to use Green Lane instead of Leigh Road as a route to the sports centre.

All nonsense about traffic not seeing the crossing seems to be oblivious to the fact that this is a PELICAN CROSSING - ie. it will have big red lights to stop the traffic when the pedestrians will be safe to cross.

The need for a crossing by Hospital Road is well known, but the location is far too dangerous (ie. lorries slipping down the hill etc) and the hospital is closing.

I hope all the rubbish being said in ignorance of the facts will stop .... or we will have another typical Westbury problem where the objectors spoil it for everyone and nothing actually gets done at all .....

I totally agree Russell.
I may disagree with your views but I am NOT attacking YOU!

there is always going to be the objectors in everything , what russell has stated is 100% fact, there isnt really much else to say on the matter, its now been decided by qualified engineers where best to place it, and we should now be pleased that one of the first things on the area board's agenda is nearing completion stage.
I see on the other forum Dorian Jones has decided to fight this crossing outside the Cedars , In my opinion this statement by Cllr Jones is extremly unhelpfull, and serves the town in a very negative way.

,i totaly agree with you mike [app]

What a surprise, so will Debs and Rosebud I'm sure.

Mike seems to have thrown his teddy out the pram. If 'roll your neck in' is the rudest comment he's had then he must have led a very sheltered life.

Maybe he should give serious thought about remaining in local politics as it's not a bed of roses and people will disagree with you from time to time.

NO shizzy i will not leave politics , that comment is meant ie the rudest thing is meant as such , its rude disrespectful for someone like tony to even say something like that, after all the support i have given that man with his petsar etc, Oh I can take rudeness its just the suprise I had by someone like tony saying such things.
Dont get me wrong Ive had far worse said to me by people and its like a drafts fart, he has now shown himself for what he is , and to paste a private message is totally wrong and rude as private messages are just that private, a warning in future for anyone dont send him any messages as he will copy and paste he didnt even have the courtesy of even answering me back via PM.
Perhaps hes had a bad week.
And to make clear i sent that message to tony concerning a post he made on the other forum I am not leaving this one just that one .

Private messages are just that Tony, private. I remember you getting your knickers in a twist over this sort of thing a while back. Perhaps you should show the same courtesy that you expect.

Happy New Year.

Pete

Mike I think the crossing should NOT Placed at the Juction of the Hosptial Road... It's far to dangerous ( how many people actually walk up to the hospital any way ) i would thought not many !!! The road to the sports centre is by Cedar Hotel ... Thats what the school wanted ( is it not ) not for them to go to the hospital... AND Shizzy you really are something else !!!

i think dorians comment below says it ::)

care to comment Dorian?

I really understand the need for crossing but NOT BEHIND MY BACK GATE!!!!!![/size]
1 the picture of Mike behind my garden suggesting this is the site i hope is being a little too "before the horse has bolted"
2 the site should be at the hospital road
3 if the site is at the cedars the problems of noise and pollution will be an even bigger issue as this is on the brow of a hill which would result in higher gear selection and Bang , there are the problems
4 more people would use the hospital rd site
5 I will fight every corner to get the crossing but i will fiercely make certain that it does not go currently where people think it will go

making assumptions again i see shizzy !!!!!
just because i know someone i dont always agree with them..im not a sheep or a yes man either come to that as any of my friends or family  will vouch for... if something or someone is wrong i wont agree with them and will say i wont...... youre a bit quick to jump on others who havent even posted anything about this subject......
just because pat rose and i are friends ( through the other forum i hasten to add) it doesnt always mean  that we are going to think alike....and agree with each other... we al do have minds of our own

personally i think its the wrong place too..lorries coming up the hill are going to have to do hill starts ( not ideal with a full heavy load)..and who is going to walk up that hill to use the crossing??? especially to come back down again the other side....
up by the cedars only benefits the people who live up there or visiting there , and / or use the sports center..so thats just going to be school kids and residents and their visitors......

Like I have said the experts have made a choice of location, im not an expert so I will leave them to it. I know Mike and many others have fought tooth and nail for this, well done to  them. Where ever it goes will suit some and not others.  Bypass springs to mind, we have a crossing location and funding thats it.  I am sad individuals choose to use this forum for a slagging match, how about coming to the next council meeting on Mon and tell us to our faces.  I have long ago realised we are damned if we do and damed if we dont.   Maybe others would like to stand for council as im sure there will be a by-election in the near future.

iknow it takes a lot of hard work by people to get all these things sorted out.... by the time it comes to public knowledge n forums there is nothing to be done to stop it so no point in getting nickers in a twist anyway i would think....

i dont agree that the "expert" know what they are doing all the time...sometimes yes but not all....  that crossing on the double roundabout at station road/meadow lane is a total disgrace... iused to live  7 houses into eden vale road and we would sit in our garden and listen to the screetch of brakes most days and hoping to god a child wasnt going to be hit over because they look up towards the doctors and carry on round the corner forgetting the crossing is there especially when they dont know the area....
i agree with the dammed when you do and dammed if you dont phrase :(  i think the councillors have a tough job to do and take a lot of stick for doing it too....
