  • Right here, right now.
i only just made it before a car came haring up doing about 60.... it had to nerve to flash n beep me so he got a hand signal back ttelling him to slow down... supposed to be 30 there going in and coming out of westbury.
No matter what speed a car should be doing, you have the responsibility as the emerging driver to exit safely and in a matter appropriate to other road users, no matter if they are speeding or not. If the chap had hit you it would have been your fault. You are not the police, you should not breach road laws 'cos you think you are in the right.
Ride fast, take chances. Just don't blame me when you fall off.

should the start of the zigzag lines at the point of the little path, travel down about 35ft then the main crossing itself plus the other zigzags on the opposite side.
in theory the crossing iteself will be right outside number 153, and the other end of the zigzags should just be about the start of the bus shelter. when a bus pulls out after dropping off passengers, manoeuvres to pull out and travel, within ten yards it will be over the crossing, which shouldn't be a problem as it wouldn't need to make a sharp and sudden stop.
plus the erection of the light post itself will take a good 300-400mm out from the pavement.

what's the speed limit there? 40mph?

Depends on the time of day; Rush hour It's about 10mph, when the roads clear 60mph. When there's a jam sandwich around, 30mph.  ;)

when at the wellhead junction, and level with the white line or very close to approaching, the view to the right is clear, but the left side can be partially hindered by for example, the hedge overhanging, or another vehicle parked further down falling in line with approaching traffic.

ah, i see, 30mph

bit of a tricky stretch that... unless it could have gone down by the community centre, no other places left.

i've seen worse and dafter council crossing points. one of the worse i seen is a disabled crossing point smack on the junction of a very wide roundabout. how on earth would they expect a fully able person to cross at that point never mind a wheelchair of motorbility cart.
the mind boggles... all councils are obligated to do is provide a crossing point and never mind some of the consequences.

the pelican crossing is ok at the wellhead, providing nobody speeds out from the junction and hits a car pulled up whilst the lights are on red. or the worst, speeding out from the junction turning left and colliding with anyone crossing.

Getting back to the pelican crossing the postion was chosen by very skilled officers at Wiltshire council who deal everyday with these issues , I worked very closely with them on this project and the proper location has been identified where it was viable and needed , I am glad this project is nearing completion and after sarh wiseman the lady who had campaigned for this was badly let down by a former District councillor who dropped the issue like a ton of hot bricks , I then was contacted by sarah and was happy to see this project through for the duration, one person who deserves a round of appaulse is sarh wiseman

sounds all good then  [app]

on the busy main road with us, where people cross the road and risk themselves from a carpark to the stores, council didn't bother putting a crossing.  pedestrians were just fodder. even the councillors didn't bother...until someone got knocked down.. then the town councillors were crawling out of the woodwork raking up a fuss after they were warned to put up a crossing lol..

since the crossing went up, they converted a lampost to a zebra crossing pillar, and the motorists are complaining they have to stop.  most motorists say it's a nuisance.
been a couple of accidents now and then, i saw someone riding a mobilty scooter who veered off the pavement onto the road next to the crossing, but that was a loss of control rather than the crossing position.. then again, another incident happened when a pedsestrian was in collision with a lorry.  one or two mis-use the crossing and just waltz onto the road, crossing over by the zigzags rather than the crossing itself.
most cars stop suddenly when someone appears to cross

what are you going on about the crossing is not even there yet !councillors crawling out the woodwork makes no sense whatsoever ! no town councilor has been crawling from anywhere as this is a Wiltshire council project not a town council project.

I think johnsouthwales is talking about where he lives, although I'm a bit confused as he seems to know Westbury intimately?

But has been called for by town councillors for some time now Mike.
I may disagree with your views but I am NOT attacking YOU!

quite indeed mike as you know westbury town council has been calling for it for a while , there has been no one crawlling from anywhere ! it has been brought up many times at the town council and once I was elected as a unitary council I then used that postion to enable the project to frutition
