i only just made it before a car came haring up doing about 60.... it had to nerve to flash n beep me so he got a hand signal back telling him to slow down... supposed to be 30 there going in and coming out of westbury.
No matter what speed a car should be doing, you have the responsibility as the emerging driver to exit safely and in a matter appropriate to other road users, no matter if they are speeding or not. If the chap had hit you it would have been your fault. You are not the police, you should not breach road laws 'cos you think you are in the right.

yes i do know this   ;D .... thats why my music is off and windows are down as you cannot see approaching traffic until they are very close to the junction and mostly when you are committed to carrying on across the road as to change your mind would be even more dangerous for everyone concerned. but road users following the 30 limit would indeed give anyone leaving the drove that bit more time to do it safely instead of approaching it at a breakneck speed as more than 50% of the present traffic usually does at the moment. anyone using the drove on a regular basis would realise that it is in fact on a slight bend AND a brow of a hill which is why the controversial refusal of the proposed "childrens home" further along the drove was refused ( another thread me thinks ) .  there hasnt been any speed camera traps on this junction for quite a while stopping the people who race in and outof out town at twice or 3 times the speed limit for that road, bout time one was due i think.  as i have said in previous posts about this junction...i have on many an occasions sat at that junction for over quarter of an hour/ 20 mins before now waiting for a safe time to exit from it.   i dont take chances driving...in fact i could be classed as overly cautious expecially at that junction  ::)

  • Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow
When I delivered in Wellhead Drove it was a nightmare to come out that junction with a van, you nearly needed a toilet roll in one hand it was so dangerous

  • Right here, right now.
Its a bad junction alright, I've done it on a push bike a few times and it make you pedal a bit quick! I'd like to see a 40 zone between the 30 and 60 so drivers might think a bit earlier to slow down. But thats another topic for another thread...

Back to the new Pelican crossing, have there actually been any incidents along that stretch of road that this crossing aims to solve? I've never heard of any, but quite accept I wouldn't expect to either.
Ride fast, take chances. Just don't blame me when you fall off.

i havent heard of nay incidents up on that particular place to cross.. but thats not to say there havent been any though. i know the school kids do use it to cross there when they go to the sports center. but its a pretty clear stretch of road and can be crossed...just a bit dodgy in busy periods.... morning..lunchtimes and  rush hour traffic... and if youre in a hurry at times... it will certainly slow the traffic down which will certainly be a big plus  :)

coming back from warminster today i went up past the cedars hotel instead of going through laverton road and through leigh park and home.... so i passed along through the new pelican crossing outside the cedars for the first time since they have been working.  very bright i thought even in the daytime..im guessing that so you can see form the bottom of the road clearly that they is in fact a crossing near enough on the brow of a hill. lets hope they are worth the money and get used a lot. i dont seem to remember of any acidents on that road in the past few years... but i know that matravers pupils have used that way along green lane and over the road to the sports center for quite a few years now.
