James Bulger's mother says killer 'where he belongs'
« on: March 03, 2010, 14:28:35 pm »
The mother of murdered toddler James Bulger has said killer Jon Venables is "where he belongs, behind bars".

In her first reaction to his return to custody, Denise Fergus also said on Twitter, "is this my [son's justice?]".

Venables, 27, was recalled to prison last week after breaching the terms of his release. He and Robert Thompson killed James on Merseyside in 1993.

i couldnt agree with her more [app] [app]

IMO the low life should never have been realised in the first place >:(

Justice Secretary Jack Straw said it was in the public interest that it be kept secret. my ass I for one would like to no why.........

i dont think they should have been relesed either.... they committed a horrific murder and torture of a very young child. at the age they were they knew what was right and wrong and that was so definately wrong...........    keep them locked up.... chuck the other one back in with him as well....shame to waste a cell on just one :)
to many people roaming the streets who should be locked up instead of people who have diddled the government out of a bit of money ie poll tax dodgers who refused to pay and ended up in nick for it

They laugh and wonder why we are so stupid (even our European neighbours whose laws the Government claim to be abiding by!!)

Now Gordon Brown rejects Bulger family's demand to know if killer was sent back to jail for drugs and violence

Gordon Brown today rejected growing calls for the public to be told why one of the killers of James Bulger has been put back behind bars.

The Prime Minister defended the Government's stubborn refusal to reveal why Jon Venables has returned to jail as details emerged of his new alleged offences.

Sources say the murderer, who is now 27, 'flipped' and attacked a colleague and had been using ecstasy and cocaine since his release in 2001.if this is true why was he relised in the first place........

It also emerged that Venables has been hospitalised twice since he was freed after becoming involved in violent altercations.

It was claimed he was stabbed more than two years ago during a row after a man tried to chat up his girlfriend.

James Bulger's killer Jon Venables was recalled to prison because of "extremely serious allegations", Justice Secretary Jack Straw has said.

He was released in 2001 on licence with a new identity after serving eight years for the murder of the toddler on Merseyside in 1993.

A report in the Sun newspaper claims Venables, now 27, is alleged to have committed a serious sexual offence.

Mr Straw is to meet James's mother to discuss the recent developments.

Venables and Robert Thompson - both aged 10 - became the UK's youngest murderers after abducting the two-year-old from a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside.

'Right to know'

Since the news broke that Venables breached his licence and had been returned to jail, ministers have refused to release details of his alleged offence.

On Wednesday, the Home Secretary Alan Johnson said he believed the public "had a right to know".

Jon Venables was released from prison under licence conditions
But Justice Secretary Jack Straw, appearing to overrule the minister, insisted that secrecy was in the public interest - and he was later backed by the prime minister.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Justice, Mr Straw said: "I was unable to give further details of the reasons for Jon Venables' return to custody, because it was not in the public interest to do so.

"Our motivation throughout has been solely to ensure that some extremely serious allegations are properly investigated and that justice is done."

The BBC's Home Affairs correspondent, Danny Shaw, said government solicitors attempted to prevent The Sun publishing full details of the allegations against Venables.

Government sources have also told the BBC that James's mother, Denise Fergus, will not be told why he is back in jail.

All kinds of horrible thoughts were going through my head, and they still are because no one will tell me what he's done

Denise Fergus
James Bulger's mother
Mrs Fergus told the Daily Mail she was angry that the Parole Board had not told her that her son's murderer had been returned to custody.

She said the authorities had broken their promise to keep her informed.

She told the paper: "Why can't the government be honest and tell us what he's done?"

Mrs Fergus, 42, accused the government of leading a "massive cover-up" because they did not want to admit that money spent on concealing Venables' and Thompson's identities had been "a complete waste".

She added: "All kinds of horrible thoughts were going through my head, and they still are because no one will tell me what he's done.

"It's wrong - as James's mother, I have a right to know."

Mrs Fergus said she had repeatedly asked for information about Venables' case during a meeting with a Probation Service officer.

"I threw question after question at her, but she blocked every one," she told the newspaper.

'Right to know'

Marie McCourt, from the charity Support After Murder and Manslaughter (Samm) on Merseyside, added her voice to those calling for Mrs Fergus to be told.

"If he is guilty of having broken those restrictions and/or committed any other serious offence then of course the family of the victim has a right to know," she said. "They above everybody have that right to know."

James Bulger's battered body was found by children playing on a freight railway line more than two miles from the shopping centre in February 1993.

Thompson and Venables were given life sentences, but released in 2001 with new identities and under certain licence conditions.

A court order prevents details being published which could reveal their whereabouts.

surely an 8 year jail term was and is not enough punishment for the torture and murder of a helpless 3 year old???  i never thought it was an appropriate sentence in the first place. that poor child  (james bulgar) and his family...what they all went through and after 8 years both the lads walked free when they turned into adulthood. released outbinto a world where no one knew them or their background with a new name new life new past.... no one to answer to ( only probabtion officers)  no rules...no guidelines nothing after 8 years of being in the justice system...
i just heard on the news that the new alleged claim in a serious sex related one. surely this must prove that the punishment/rehabilitation has not worked. keeping this young man "safe" from others knowledge for a crime he DID commit is costing our country hundreds of thousands of pounds.  does he still deserve to be annonymous ??  doesnt the general public deserve to know how he is in order to keep their own daughters/children away from him and also not to put themselves into such a position that he could turn on them???   why should everyone be in the dark and then wonder why he snaps and then hurt another person....

James Bulger killer Jon Venables was allowed to sneak off to Norway on a fun-packed holiday – confident no one there had an inkling of his evil past.

The murderer’s secret new identity, registered on UK police’s national computer network, meant airport security checks would have shown nothing of his hideous crime.

Venables, now 27, had to ask probation officers for permission before leaving Britain.

However, it is unclear whether the Norwegian government was ever told one of Britain’s most notorious child murderers was heading for its shores. Venables went clubbing, visited tourist attractions and behaved appropriately while on his Norway visit, well-placed sources have revealed to the Mirror.

A legal injunction means we cannot reveal when the jaunt took place or whether he went alone or with other people. The brute, freed in 2001 over two-year-old James’s murder, is now back behind bars for breaching the terms of his licence.

The Department of Justice has insisted the exact reason must remain shrouded in secrecy.

The Mirror this week revealed how Venables has had several brushes with the law since his release nine years ago. The thug has flouted a ban to return to his native Merseyside and party on booze, cocaine and ecstasy.
In addition, he has exploded in fits of ugly temper, including one violent workplace bust-up.

It is not known whether any of those incidents are behind his dramatic recall to prison.

the above alone should have been enough to send him straight back in the nick if they were all conditions of his release.... trouble is   probabtion officers are to busy or dont care enough.... police are to busy or try to do their best and courts let them straight back oout again ........
if he returned to merseyside there was a chance he saw his family and friends which was another condition if irc of his "new life..new name" which costs the tax payer thousands n thousands

Fresh claims over Bulger killer Jon Venables' recall

Jon Venables - one of the killers of James Bulger - was recalled to prison on suspicion of offences related to images of child abuse, a paper reports.

The Sunday Mirror also claims Venables, who was released on licence with a new identity in 2001, had sparked concerns by using drugs and revealing his past.

Justice Secretary Jack Straw said he faced "extremely serious allegations".

James Bulger's mother, Denise Fergus, said Venables should lose his anonymity if he is charged with serious offences.  [app]

i agree with  james bulger's mum too...
he should lose his right anonymity... he has had his one chance to put his life back in order and so far has not proved that he has done so...  since his release he has not kept to his release restrictions...and broken them..so why should he reap the benifits ie  anonymity should go to....
bit harsh you think???  tough...shame they didnt think twice about what they were doing when they tourtured and killed that poor little boy and ruined his families life for ever   :'(

Venables is understood to have been masking severe psychological problems by abusing drugs and alcohol on a daily basis.

Probation officers became particularly concerned when they discovered that he was publicly revealing his identity.

But it was only when he was suspected of child porn offences that the decision was taken to jail him again.

All prisoners on licence can be recalled to prison if suspected of breaching a “good behaviour” rule.

The Sunday Mirror knows which prison Venables is being held in but cannot report it.

read below i found this very interesting............

The social worker who looked after Bulger killer until release gives a first extraordinary account of his ‘kid gloves’ treatment inside

A social worker who spent eight years observing his behaviour on a daily basis has come forward to reveal to The Mail on Sunday how Thompson’s life unfolded during his time in detention.

The portrait he paints may surprise: It is of someone who managed to divorce himself from a crime which shocked the world, who emerged from his secure unit aged 18 as a ‘popular, likeable lad’ and, above all, singularly confident – chillingly so.

‘Of course I can’t be sure, no one can, but I can’t see Robert going the same way as Venables,’ he said. ‘He is just too smart, too calculating.’

What he has to say about Thompson’s comfortable existence inside and the way the ‘prison system danced in attendance around him’ will infuriate James’s mother Denise Fergus.

And he said he saw nothing in the way of remorse.
