« on: June 06, 2010, 21:26:44 PM »
ive a query that some of you might be able to help me with

in your front garden which is the boundry which you are responsible for??  and the same witht he back garden too :)

i always understood it to be that if you stood at your door the boundry to your right was yours  and the same with the back gardens too

can anyone shed any light on it for me or give me a hint as where to look to find out please  :)

Ask your landlord he/she should have all the relevant info..........

Indeed, your landlord can tell you from the deeds. I had a big argument with a neighbour once, I had found out which was my boundary and cut back the hedge that was planted in my plot, the neighbour went mental at me, ranting and raving, but I had the law on my side( and the hedge on my side) he insisted it was his hedge, but the council had told me otherwise.

Modern houses just have "boundaries as exist" on deeds (well, the last two I looked at did), then Debs you are correct about the right hand side being your responsibility. You house is likely old enough to have defined/measured boundaries though.

Generally speaking, when facing the front of your house, your boundary will be the left hand side. It has been on the last three houses I've owned anyway.

But best to check with the holder of the deeds.

think my landlord needs to find out legally whose is whose i think....

me n my ex had 5 different house in over 22 yrs and always to understand it as the other way round...we never had problems with any neighbours over that...

Yep, same side as front. But double check with deeds holder just to be sure.

as you may remember i have had a few issues with my landlord not doing maintenence in or around my home which he is responsible for.  you will also know that i have had 3 panels of fencing missing between me and my neighbours for the past 16 months...well blow me down with a feather if on saturday morning a digger turned up to dig out the trench and tuesday a man turned up to put the "level in place with bits of wood and string and then yesterday a lorry turned up with cement for the foundations. i never know anything of whats going on as he never knocks the door and says whats happening (rude) and thaat there will be strangers trapsing around my garden and parking on my drive....still  least its started, roll on a bloody great wall of china  to keep their mess, their 5 kids, their rubbish toys and food and most of all their bloody dog who likes crapping in my garden.... ROSE...PAT.... looks like next summer we can have our little evenings in start up again...once i get the garden sorted back out as now its trashed : cant wait!!!

me

looks like i could have been bolting the door AFTER the horse bolted here by presuming that the wall was being done over a fortnight ago...actually it was longer than that  when a brickie came and did 2 courses and one of the end pillars to show the height of the said wall... and suprise surprise no-one has been back since...   cant see any reason why not because we have had 2 nice weekends out of the 3 they havent been here for  :(
so im still having to look at this everytime im at my sink ... AND having to put up with 2 pallets of blocks on my drive and a pile of sand taking up a parking space...  yes im never happy you say !!!  i dont ask for a lot...a wall between me and my neighbours and my drive clear so it can be used by my family as i have double yellows outside my home  grrrrrr

THATS QUITE TIDY AS WELL SURPRISINGLY  .... least the kids arent out there running riot all over the  2 course  .. not that they havent tried mind and their rubbish has already been picked up by urs truely when it kept blowing over onto my garden

Debs

It entirely depends on what was agreed when the boundaries were set out originally by the parties at the time.

I would not make any assumptions. The only way to be sure is to look at the title deeds (if the land is not yet registered) or at the Land Registry papers and plan.
I'm here in my private capacity as a local resident only (unless stated otherwise).
