Travellers invading the town?
« on: August 18, 2010, 09:42:44 am »
Anyone else seen the field by the avoid line, hubby has just come back that way and the field by the foot crossing is full of caravans and horses.  Is this a mass invasion?

Someone else commented that they are also in the trading estate by the Comet storage place.

If so, hope it's nipped in the bid quickly  ??? :o

Not yet, nor clothespegs, but I think we are to expect it later in the day?

I wonder if the farmer knows they are in his field?

Oldfield road, where the fast trains go, there is a crossing there that leads across a field and to the station, they are in the farmers field there, presumably got to it through the station car park and along the little road that goes to the storage area for the station.

If it's happening, the end of this month, I thought it may be them, but I don't think they ever bring horses with them. They usually get here a couple of days before and set up in Penleigh straight away.

Someone else saw some of them parked up in the trading estste yesterday, I suppose they were on the lookout for a decent field to set up in.

ahh right i know where you mean now  ::)

as a farming family i expect dorian will know who those fields belong too.  but as we have councillors on the forum i would imagine this will be now picked up quite quickly and dealt with rather than wait for the police to find them ::)

its about time the laws were made easier for the landowner to get rid of these people ( was gonna put vermin but thought tht could offend)  they pitch up where ever they like... foul the area with alsorts..leave behind loads of mess litter and large  rubbish that costs the local community thousdands to clear. their children run riot and end up being banned from all the local shops... the adults cause trouble in the pubs at nights ( i remember a few incidents in the white lion a few years ago) they thieve wherever the opertunity arises, shops gardens homes supermarkets.   we dont need them around, they certainly dont enhance our community or make it run any better.  a lot of them are rude, obnoxious especially with drink inside them.
i remember when we lived in bremeridge road in bitham park....EVERY year they would descend on the field opposite the co op on the roundabout ( first field)...  the co op would have loads of trouble with them and banned the travvellers from entering in the end.. they were just walking through..picking up what they wanted and walking out..never even attempting to pay... they would also descend on the residents of bitham park offering to do work on gardens and buildings.  an old lady iknew was told she needed a few thousand pounds worth of work done on her roof...  she didnt at all... luckily she had a relative visiting at the time who told them to bugger off n not return or he would call the police...  once we  knew they were around in numbers we all made sure the doors were shut n locked properly, and garages and sheds......
they are probably nice when you get to know them but their reputations and their own behaviour spoils it for people int he towns to get to know them .  thieves dont do it for me im afraid..   they just go from town to town causing mess and havok on the way

When is the Fun Fair coming to town?

they wouldnt be from the fair i would have thought as the fair always knows well in advance where they are going and where they set up and what fields they are to go in....
i would have said the ones who camp in any fields they can  when they want arent belonging to the fair....  these are  just chancers out to fleece homeowners out of lots of money with roof and facia repairs like they do every year   :(

isnt that field also assessable from the lane right opposite the railway pub that goes alongside the minehole..  there used to be a small holding there years ago ( i lived there short term for a while , cant think what the lane is called ) but there is a large gate with access into the fields that take you right back to the old penleigh park estate...  we used to do it to go see our friends
they could have got in that way too...

I didn't think they were part of the Fun Fair! Just wondering if they were 'followers' of fairs!! Just a coincidence!?  >:( Still, poor people have got rights to settle where they want to!!! Who are we rate payers to complain!!

i didnt think it would be OC       this lot are just the usual chancers that turn up going from town to town fleecing the community
