There is a proper gypsy that travels around locally. Once or twice a year he parks his caravan and horses on the verge near my parents house. Ever such a nice chap, never leaves a mess and always has a cheery wave for those that say hi.

Like any group of people, some are good, and some are not. We should not tar all gypsies with the same brush.

We should, however, tar and feather some.

Real proper gypsies though, they are different to what we have experienced here, they have traditional caravans and horses, and live a good life, and as you say, leave no mess or anythig to upset locals, I have a lot of time for them, and admire them for living that life, but pikies, they are different and have nothing to do with traditional gypsies.

Not sure, but I see that someone has 'ram raided' the gates at Penleigh park, and one is now hanging off of its hinges, just dangling there, wonder if it was done on purpose?

Uh-oh - sounds like it could be the next place?? Mind you, I doubt they'd have much fun at the fair when it comes to town :)

There has been a large horse box type vehicle hanging around since they left last week, it has an awning and is parked for much of the time at the end of the road leading past Penleigh park, the little bit that goes to 'nowhere' ,hope its nothing to do with that  ??? I would hate to see pikies invade the local park, the children rely on it so much, it would be awful if it was a no go zone for everyone.

Dana, that "horse box" (it's actually a converted Motorcross motorbike) has been around at various places across town for a few weeks now. I don't believe it's related to the other travellers. They never leave a mess behind either.

Has anyone actually reported the Penleigh gates to the council or indeed the local Police? I've not seen the gates as I'm not at home, but if they have been vandalised it needs reporting properly so remedial action can be taken asap.

I see this morning that the council are out fixing the gate on Penliegh park :)

thats good news
its  a shame when any large place of grass has to be fenced in and gates padlocked and large concrete lumps put in lanes and gateways in order to stop these people who turn up cause havok and leave loads of mess when they are legally evicted at costs to councils and owners  :(  the law should be changed so owners have more control over their own land without having to give a months notice of eviction or whatever it is now...   it should be immediate eviction as soon as owners realise they have unwanted squatters on their land...  straight off...no arguements...  police should evict them straight away....  they cause havok in every town they land on. it not fair or right they do this. we all have rules we have to abide to and so should they. its as simple as that really. they just go from town to town, county to county ripping people of who have drives and paths tarmaced and rooves and such "fixed"     these are not real gypsies...they are chancers and rep off merchants and shouldnt be tollerated. if they  keep getting away with it they will continue to stay here doing it instead of going back where they come from
