I once got pushed off my feet and into my seat at a footie match...........by a copper. Blimey, should have seen the blokes I was with run to my aid and square up to him! I suppose he was a minority.

I actually exercise a lot and am physically quite strong after years spent in a gym and playing squash and hockey (admittedly a long time ago now), though I do eat far too much ....

Nope, he singled me out to push, we were all standing up to try and see the match and he took offence at the colourful language that the boys were using, and I happened to be the nearest person and he deliberately shoved me off of my feet. It was a boisterous crowd, but there was no need to push a girl around lke that( this was the mid 80s.)

That was the only time anything happened towards me at a match.

Ms Somerville admits she became angry and abusive when the two officers repeatedly refused to explain why they wanted to take her to a police station.

this was incidently on the police facebook site this morning as it appeared on mine... but not as detailed a report as this and no pictures either...

besides that you were assaulted (even if you didn't know you had been at the time)..that was common police attitude, barging people out of the way. probably he didn't even know you were there. then again, they are not concerned who they shove out of the way whether male or in your case, female. no wonder they turned on him..  still goes on today

We were always herded around like sheep at matches( this was West Ham by the way) and some away games were terrible, I remember being herded , whether we liked it or not, from the stadium at West Brom, led by horses, to the train station and put on a special train just for us, with no toilets, for the long journey home, as if it was a kind of punishment.

At the time, I didnt even think about it being assault.
