what makes a good public house?
« on: September 04, 2010, 09:15:29 am »
evreyone has different expectations when they visit pubs for the evening. what do you expect from yours??

i like different pubs for different things.....   they are all different in their atmosphere , decoration and entertainment and food.   whats you expectations and why??

personally i love.....

The Barge at seend for a relaxing meal and sit by the canal in spring summer and autumn
The horse and Groom for sunday lunch and pleasent evenings sat chatting with friends /family
The ludlow for live music and disco and ll day bbq's and quizzes/games should i want that
The hungry Horse for quick meal especially if i got grand children as there is plenty to keep the  occupied
trowbridge house in bath..........just because  ::)  lol
the lopes but not often as i find the drinks are  a lot more expensive than other pubs in market place..but its nice to sit on the sofas comfy and chat in relative peace n quiet.

i tend to go for pubs that you can hear yourself talk to your companion. there is nothing worse than having to shout across the table at someone.

i like one you feel comfy in....  cant stand the ones where you walk in and everyone stops talking and looks at you... as though you dont belong....  we had that in the george n dragon in erlestoke last year  :(  mde me feel really uncomfortable

cant stand the issac newton in trowbridge town hall... went in there once for lunch whilst out shopping... wont be doing that again....   sat at a table where no one was sitting and the person sat at the next table said we were to move cos it was someones seat  ::)   the person would be coming to the pub soon  ::)   did i move?? not a hope in hell....   you dont save tables for people who arent event here... we were going to behaving a meal a few drinks and spending a few quid NOT nursing a half of cheap cider all afternoon which is what seems to happen inthere in the day...its more of a drop in center from what we observed.  5-6 tables all with one person sat at each one each nursing a half pint..all chatting to each other so obviously friends who meet there every day. why didnt they share a table instead of occupying 5 tables which potentially seats 20+ people but only seated 5  :o  not good practise ont he managements part im sure....
the courthouse is nice...only been there during the day for lunch though..not an evening which im told its packed and very nosiy  ;D  food was nice..most acceptable.....
not been to chicago rock by the park since the change of ownership and name...anyone else been there yet? what was the food like???

I had occasion to visit the George & Dragon a few months back, (just passing & not allowed home at the time due to anne summers party) Miserable sods. Same experience, lady behind the bar was really pleasant, but the punters made me feel like I'd grown horns.
Please would you walk a little faster, or get the f*** out of my way.

I remember many years ago in the Labour Club in Westbury if you went to sit i a seat you were told that is so and so's seat, try another seat no someone elses seat and so it went on, but I later found out that these people perhaps only used the club maybe once or twice a week but you still couldn't sit there.
And also if yo went to get a drink at the bar even though you were a member the 'older' members would get served first.

Nothing wrong with serving the old'uns first.  Make us wait & we might keel over before you get the money [beer]

I didn't mean the senior citizens I mean 'older members' and even if you were at the bar before them they would still get their drink before you

one that sells reasonably priced drinks, not over inflated ones like £3 a pint to cover their rent
don't buy the sun. don't read the sun. don't look at the website.

thats wrong oc... it should be first at the bar is served first.  thats what i always did when i was a barmaid for a few years.
i went to a pub years ago now  and we were ignored in favour of "the regulars"  we waited for a bit then left... most disgusted..and have never returned

i used to like the angel at upton scudamore. it was a few years ago when i was last in there though... many moons before they turned it all posh with their nouveau cuisine style which i dont appreciate. i prefer my carrots to  be spooned onto the plate not messed around and fanned out in slices  ::)

It does make you make you wonder about handing over hard earned cash for food! Is it mainly youngsters running it?
Is it time for your Medication or mine?
