Council waste collectors "Wheelie Stupid"
« on: September 04, 2010, 18:35:25 pm »
It really is time, in my humble opinion, that Wiltshire Council sorted their refuse collectors out!   Collect the rubbish or lose the contract!!
I may disagree with your views but I am NOT attacking YOU!

I thought these collectors were big strong men, but nowadays they refuse to empty peoples bins at the slightest wime, and now this latest fiasco about it might damage the tyres, what a load of cobblers! they don't worry when they are driving over rough ground on the tip etc.
The old dustcart men would certainly have called these modern day collectors a few well chosen words, when the old guys had to lift 'proper' bins full of ashes etc over the side of the dustcart.

Just like a lot of things these days, they have to take it to the extreme! wrong sort of pot-hole, wrong type of tarmac, it's a wonder they have the right sort of vehicle!!!!!

ahhh just saw on the wilts time what this is possibly about....

http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/8372559.Council_decision__wheelie_stupid___say__residents/

how ridiuculous.   i used to live in gibbs close in westbury. all our bins had to be left at the top of the lane years ago when i was there. the dustcart refused to go down the lane even though there was a turning area...   that was mostly elderly people living there too apart from us

i like the wording 'could' cause damage to the tyres.. either it does or it doesn't.
so, if they have been collecting on a private road in the past and suddenly they had a change of mind - but this kind of thing has been going on nationwide for a few years.

what a shabby way to treat pensioners.

i wonder what is really on their hidden agenda? the fact of 'trespassing' onto a private road or using the tyres as an excuse?

the only health and safety issue would be jarring a back whilst riding over a pothole.
who picks up the bill for repairs? council or contractor passing bill back to council? i can't imagine a refuse company maintaining their vehicles for free so it's pretty obvious the tax payers pick up bills.

have they just stopped driving up for the wheelies bins?  or have they stopped driving up for black bags as well.... if they have stopped driving up for black bags, then it's the private road scenario after all and not health and safety

usually, the lifting mechanism works best on a flat and horizontal surface.... wonder how they mage to load outside houses that are on hills? lol..

i'm sure they could work it out and do a test run in various position, and if the mechanism cannot lift them at all in all locations, i'm sure someone has got a load of old ash to fill in the holes. or is ash banned these days?

if a pot hole is so large that it affects a lorry, i could imagine it being 300mm deep and 600mm wide
and if theres a pile of them, how would you expect a pensioner to drag them across when the wheels are designed for zero bumps...

does this mean council carers are banned from using the private road as well?  ;)

ashes are still allowed in the bins   but only cold ones obviously  NOT HOT ASHES as it wouldnt be advisable in plastic bins really....     they certainly are a law unto themselves.....  one week they take my neighbours bins ( yes they have 2, full and over brimming, lids not shut ) the next week they have refused to take mine with an extra bag in... anad even walked in up the drive to put it nearer to the house instead of throwing it into the back of the lorry which was much nearer...   ::)   crazy  absolutely bloody crazy

They had this story on the local tv news yesterday and I have to say they did show some large pot-holes and if IIRC they said they didn't know who it belonged to! I'm just guessing of course that the residents are paying rates!! In which case, shouldn't their bins get collected?

funny how there are 'two' clarendon roads.. one leading from west ashton road 200metres to the houses and another leading off to the right just before beatrice way travelling approx 140meters down to green lane.. assuming both clarendon roads are private roads.. can't have one clarendon road maintained etc and not the other

unadopted roads makes all the difference..it doesnt matter if you pay your rates or not....   they refused to come down our lane because it was unadopted  ( their excuse anyway)  luckily we only had to drag our bin 30 ft or so up a slight incline with potholes....  not so much fun for the other neighbours further down the lane :( with no lights either or paths

then again, i have seen refuse lorrys going down private roads to collect. but on the other hand, i have seen them refuse to travel down another private road.  flaming double standards. i think they use the private road as an excuse if they have difficulty reversing, loading etc.

normally, a private road means private and get invited onto it by requesting their refuse to be picked up..other times, it's like driving a vehicle on private property, won't be suprised if it has anything to do with insurance and liabilty lol
