i've thought something about this.  the only person in the vehicle at the time where the potholes are should be the driver, as the other two are on foot and the collectors would be on foot, but the driver still runs the risk of a back injury.. or are the contractors more concerened of having damage caused to the lorry? tyre damage, suspension, cracked bushes.

actually, there is a pause for thought.  potholes no doubt cause damage to tyres, whether it is the inside wall or the outside wall.. say for example damage was caused to the inner wall and nobody knew about it, and the lorry was travelling on the main road later and had a blow out and crashed into other vehicles etc... where would they stand then?

a tyre with an inner wall rupture is a ticking timebomb because nobody can see if there there is any damage.

potholes are a national occurence.  i can see both sides of the coin, but people forget to look at the edges as well.  moral of the story is someone has to fix the potholes, but what is happening at clarendon road is one part runs through where the houses are (so who owns that part) and the lane behind could be owned by someone else

I agree. I wouldn't expect a council waste lorry to go down a private driveway, so why should we a private road (which is what an unadopted road is)? The reasoning may sound silly, but ultimately the residence would have been aware that their road was private and should have been aware that the council didn't really have to use it - its not like they expect it to be swept is it.

technically, if the road on that side of clarendon road, or any road at all when it is private, means that police are not allowed to travel along it as they will be trespasing lol.

if it is private land, and a worker such as council bin collectors, postmen etc should happen to receive an injury such as a twisted ankle and was off work or even in the worst circumstance, had to have surgery and lost employment, they can actually sue the residents.

one postman had knee surgery whilst 'fleeing' from a barking dog and slipped in a crack in the path, and because the woman had no house insurance, they are making her sell her house to pay for his damages
