Well yes it's obviously not going to happen - but it's still surprising that an e-petition has got so many people talking about it....but then the Daily Mail is widely read...

For those that are interested Protocol 13, Article 1 prevents the death penalty. This came into force on 1 July 2003, so any debate is totally pointless.

Article 1 – Abolition of the death penalty

The death penalty shall be abolished. No one shall be condemned to such penalty or
executed.

Couldn't we just detain them in a jail outside the EU and then we'd be OK? ;)

Or - make the punishment fit the crime. Ban them from ever owning locks or keys, or even doors on their houses - for life!

The government got it all wrong  our prisons can be reduced if they brought in the following

Boot camp for sentience's under a year.

send all those on life sentience over to Afghanistan ( with out training) and if they survive a year then they can go free . they quick enough to sack all our soldiers but willing to pay double to keep scum in prison.

Any pedo's or child killers should get life and stay behind bars.

right rant over.

I am being very serious ;) it would sort the bugger's out and make them think twice, if they had to go to war. why should Innocent men die, when low life have a life of riley, and get paid for it too. make's my blood boil.

Boot camp for sentience's under a year.

Probably more costly than  prison.

send all those on life sentience over to Afghanistan ( with out training) and if they survive a year then they can go free . they quick enough to sack all our soldiers but willing to pay double to keep scum in prison.

Not sure I would want convicted killers returning from Afghanistan walking the streets free men. Not a vote winner.

Any pedo's or child killers should get life and stay behind bars.

This won't cause a decrease in the prison population.

I presume your post was tongue in cheek.  :-\

Yeah and while we're at it let's bring back the death penalty  ::)

In case you can't tell I'm being sarcastic! 14 years in prison??? You lot would be the first to complain about the increase in taxes needed to house more criminals, and build more prisons!

Sector 9. If the law implemented the maximum jail sentences, there would be less in prison. The toe rags would realise they were no longer going to be treated leniently and would start to abide by the rules!
I may disagree with your views but I am NOT attacking YOU!

These so called requirements for Parliament to discuss any subject for which there have been 100,000 signatories is just another  Government con.

They will DISCUSS, and then follow the rules set by the EU!

Another example of the Government pretending to be democratic!! Who, but a complete idiot is going to fall for this cr*p?

i have to agree with you... its because they all know they will get realy light sentencing or in most cases nothing at all they carry on with their crimes time and time again.  exactly how many chances does one person need??  i know of certain individuals here in westbury who get community service for crimes they dont even do that.. ( and im not talking of scum who steal from childrens charity run pre school either..for once)  ( but if the cap fits... )  then you see them out and about bragging that they got off with it again... it just isnt right or fair...  a proper prison term would more than likely deter.....   god forbid if you defraud the government though cos that imprisonment straight away... steal from a chairty (10 grand) you walk away smiling

I have to completely disagree with you. If you give a hefty sentence - 14 years - for burglary, then in a similar way what are we giving out for drink driving, domestic abuse, murder, rape, paedophilia? Even with serious crimes that carry a hefty sentence, people still commit them - you'd just find that prisons are filling up quicker with long term inmates - and that's no good for anyone.

There's an argument that institutionalising people, and also giving them prolonged access to other criminals, is surely a bad thing.

You might tackle the problem of kids stealing sweets from shops, but I'm sure you'd just cause many more problems in the future.
