Why was this a pre-recorded message? Were the Captain and Officers Italian, and therefore had already left the plane when things were obviously wrong??

Strange no comments so far on the Concordia disaster.  Not the first time a cruise ship has been in trouble and the (foreign) Captain and officers have abandoned ship before their passengers.  The more I read of this, the more apparent that gaol terms are imminent!!

The Captain says,"I remained on board until passengers had evacuated". So how did they find 2 more alive 24 hours later, and have found 9 bodies so far with 20 still missing? If he had remained on board as he claimed, why was it necessary for the Coast Guard to order him to go back on board until the evacuation was complete (which he allegedly refused to do!).

If only half the allegations against this "captain" are true, he is an absolute disgrace to the Merchant Navy, and should not be allowed to skipper a rowing boat in the future!!

Because if it were a real incident I imagine the crew have other things to be doing than try to read a script calmly and correctly.
