when will people realise that children and guns do not mix and they should both be never left within easy reach of each other....  bordering on plain stupidity if you ask me

The boy's grandfather said it was believed the girl picked up the air weapon when the children's father left it unattended to answer a phone call.

blame the father by the sounds of it

although i d agree to a certain extent.
hubby has taught our little chick how to shoot he is from a farming background and when he was her age his dad taught him and he taught his little brother,
his brother went on a school trip to the army place in chepstow about 6 years ago now and they let the kids have a go on the rifle range they made him do his 3 times as they couldn't believe how well he could shoot  even beating some of the snipers scores, its all about common sense and teaching the right way our daughter would never touch a gun unless daddy was right there with her to help.
and the gun gets lockedaway as soon as we have finished using it it's NEVER left lying around
life is what you make it

He was talking on his mobile phone when the tragedy happened.

The shooting prompted campaigners to call for legislation to make airgun owners liable for their misuse.

The Gun Control Network (GCN) said legislation was needed to register airguns and their owners.
sounds a good idea to me... make the owners of the guns legally responsible for them and the misuse caused by them ???? isnt that already in place? you have guns they have to be stored properly and locked up!!! if someone takes it then your responsible for it i thought......  maybe im seeing/thinking aboout it a different way

that poor little girl is going to be thinking about this for the rest of her life, at 5 she has a lot of chance of remembering what she did unless she blocks it out of course
