There seems to be a lot of people riding on the pavements around Leigh park, are they that wide to accommodate people walking as well as bikes. I always ride on the road but its getting a bit dangerous in parts, what can you tell me Russell ?
As far as I am aware, the only cycleway through Leigh Park is the one running north-south from Leigh Park Way (A3098 through Leigh Park) parallel to Wellhead Stream and then running west-east alongside Chestnut Play Area crossing Fell Road and connecting to Redland Lane (off Eden Vale Road).
All other footpaths and pavements are NOT cycleways, though Penleigh Road (which runs as a track from Penleigh Farm across Mane Way and which also crosses Hackney Way and Timor Road) is an old highway anyway. I think Penleigh Road is due to be demoted to a cycleway / bridleway).
Nowhere else is a cycleway. There is no reason for any pavement to be a cycleway anyway because bikes belong in the road.
Personally, as a pedestrian on a pavement, I block pavements to stop people illegally riding bicycles
UNLESS they are children or obviously infirm and are clearly unable to safely ride in the road.
The nuisance of cyclists using pavements should be stopped. It is illegal. Incidentally, there are no bridleways in Leigh Park (apart from Penleigh Road which is a "highway"). I say this because several people living in a close in Fell Road beside the Redland Lane cycleway incorrectly think it is a bridleway and one has even named their house as if it is next to a bridleway.
