Why? If you don't want to pay that much, find somewhere cheaper, no-one's forcing you to fill up there.

No you didn't say you filled up there. I'm just curious as to why you think they should be closed down.

Thats a great local community store there. I suspect they have to charge a bit more in order to stay alive, as they are a much smaller company than the likes of BP, Shell, Tesco, etc. Worth a stop if you need lunch, cracking sandwiches and local pies :D

Probably because they have to pay more for it than the "chain" petrol stations.

I know what you mean Rose, but its not strictly true. You do get volume discounts within the petroleum industry and there are significant distribution cost benefits for large scaling. Plus there is less ability to buy at fixed prices, or when prices are low for use later, for the smaller chains.

Yes it does depend on how much you buy, but then that would depend on size of garage and how offen you buy it.. if you get petrol every other day and fill up six pumps then yes you would get it at a better cost than if you only had two pumps and brought it once a month... and it is down to each garage owner as to what they charge.  If you buy whole sale you are going to get it cheaper than going to a normal shop. !

But a smaller company can't get as good a deal on volume, thats my point. So they have to charge more to cover costs. I appreciate that at 99.9p/litre it isn't all just that cost, but 1 or 2p/litre will be.
