Computer help?
« on: January 09, 2009, 07:09:10 AM »
Since going online this morning i'm constantly getting three click sounds and then 12 second gap then three clicks again? It sounds like the click when it's blocking something but it's regular and won't stop? Any ideas how to fix it or what it could mean?

Sounds like a virus from your browser cache.

I would clear out your internet browser cache  (a deep clean) and run your anti-virus program (after updating) fully to check all is OK.

My PC had the same problem earlier this week and it ended up crippling my CPU with a constant power drain and major files in my data storage folders got corrupted as well. I ended up reinstalling windows and my data from complete drive partition images (Norton Save and Restore) I made a month ago for each drive.

The sound is like clickking a link 3 times then pauses for 12 seconds and starts again. Doesn't happen on firefox, but aol home page, my internet explorer browser task bar keeps saying fraud  detection ok in linewith the sound. I have norton 360

I thought before you said it was a mouse click sound that it was yoru hard disk dying... Still, best download yourself Adaware and SpyBot and have a proper scan.
Ride fast, take chances. Just don't blame me when you fall off.

Its something to do with the fraud monitoring and norton 360. It only happens on Aols home page?

Norton 360 includes anti-spyware with its anti-virus function.

I would update Norton 360 manually and keep repeating it until it tells you that it is fully updated. Then run a full scan. Norton 360 automatically removes anything nasty.

If you still have the problem after running a full scan with N360, I would install a specialist anti-spyware program such as the one Al suggests ... though afterwards I would not leave it running all the time at the same time as N360 as N360 needs to run in the background by itself as it is fully automatic.
