Who is to say if a person can avoid alcoholism or not? When I was in the army we had a sergant who was built like a brick outhouse and looked after the lads well. He was always first up front. I saw him a few years after we were demobbed hardly able to speak due to drink. I heard he died of liver cancer some time back. A terrific bloke. I'd be a bit careful about slinging words like yours at people.

No there isn't. The idea that an alcoholic can simply look up Alcoholics Anonymous and they take over from there putting the drinker back on track is a myth. Unfortuneatly once a person is an alky they rarely recover. I have seen it many many times in my life and reckon that alcoholism is a genetic problem.
