This new forum is the 4th version of Westbury Town Forum.

The first was set up in 2004 and co-owned by Kevin Saunders (a Matravers School pupil) and Leigh Pickering (Landlord at the H&G). It was called "Westbury Town Forum" - no "s" on the end.

The second version occurred in 2005 and was a dramatic upgrade of the forum software. Kevin Saunders was now the sole owner (with parental support). All members had to re-register to access the new version.

The third was set up by Messrs Donkin. They used a similar name with the "s" on the end of "forum".

So, this place is in fact the FOURTH version (not counting a software upgrade the third version enjoyed within a day of the second version finally closing for the last time in late 2006).

Right then... thank you for that. I'm still going with v3 'cos your 1 and 2 are to me only derivations of themselves.

But lets be honest, does it matter?

To my mind, the change of ownership and control, plus the completely different software (actually the same as this one - currently), meant that the change in 2005 was a second version. People regarded it as the new version at the time.  There was also a completely new set of moderators, which included Bazza and Ettie. Ettie went on to the be the top "Global Moderator". Most of these moderators went across to version 3 as well.

Whether the point is relevant depends on how accurate you want to be. I suppose a detail like this is not really terribly important.

But, I was one of the earliest members of the first forum and I've been a member of every version so I have a perspective which make me think that this new forum is, in fact , the fourth version.

I'm not trying to close any forum down, honestly. When I heard yesterday that the other forum was "closing down" I knew not for how long, so I threw this together. Now I find several other people have been banned due to the other forums editorial policies, which makes me think I might as well leave this one open for anyone who wants to visit. Think of this as the people's forum, rather than any individual's. We'll see how it goes I guess!

i couldn't agree with you more AL,this should be the peoples forum.

About bloody time! I left the old forum yonks ago, the old self appointed queen of Westbury and her mindless censorship drove old Tony nuts. Lets hope it's better 3rd time around! the westbury forum is dead LONG LIVE the westbury forum!
