I was thinking more of the days when Britain had a ship building industry, a manufacturing base, when we made motorcycles, and cars, before the Japanese and the Germans took that over from us, when we had a coal industry, before Thatcher and her gang destroyed it.
The days when there were real jobs, not zero hours contracts, the days when our NHS was run efficiently by professional medical staff, not managers, a time when we looked after and cared for our elderly in the community.
The days when our schools were properly funded and run by local authorities, oh I know there were a lot of things not right, a lot of things to do, but that was before we got ourselves involved in other peoples wars, followed a foreign policy dictated by the Yanks.
The days when people were more important than profit, a short period of time I know, but a time immediately after the 2nd WW when we had a Labour government when we seemed to have a bright future, a time before Thatcher and Blair.
I was thinking we could have such a time again, with a party and a leader who listened to the people, a government that was prepared to invest in the future, to tax fairly, and chase after the tax cheats and free loaders, that's not looking through rose coloured glasses, that's hope, and a belief that we can have a better and fairer system.
