General Election called for 8th June 2017

The Prime Minister has announced that she is asking Parliament to suspend the Fixed Term Parliament Act to call a General Election on June 8th. She needs a two-third majority and Corbyn has said Labour will support this call!

This will mean that the last two and a half weeks of the County / Unitary elections, including our local unitary election for Wiltshire Council, will be overwhelmed with talk in the general media about the General Election and BREXIT.


People are getting vote fatigue ...

I'm not.  [beer]  I also think that May is making a mistake if she thinks it will give the government more certainty and stability over exiting the EU decisions. It's a big gamble!

Tim Farron has said it will give a chance to block Brexit!  Vote LibDem or vote Democracy?  Personally I would rather vote Labour than this impetuous childs' party!

wanderlust it made me laugh.    [app] [app]   I am also a bit thick so please can someone enlighten me as to why she would call a snap election, or is this some sneaky way of going against the will of the people.

The Channel 4 News tonight reports that 30 individuals are being investigated and considered for prosecution for electoral expense irregularity in the 2015 general election, 24 MP's are apparently on this list.
It seems that the GE result in 2015 is in dispute, the conservative majority would, if this is so, be wiped out, perhaps she had no choice.

How does that work then Charlie? Is she hoping to lose thereby passing the responsibility of negotiating brexit to someone else? Or because if she loses we wont Brexit at all? Or am I also being thick.

Also while I think of it, its a bit odd, slippery daye (having called the referendum resigns) Mrs po face calls a snap election, hardly forward planning or continuity of leadership for us mere mortals. Never mind its full speed ahead and fuc@ the icebergs.
