Portway Fish & Chips

I have noticed that Portway Fish & Chip shop is now called the Star Fish Bar. Has this place changed hands does anyone know, and is it owned by the same people that own the Star Fish Bar in Warminster?

Have have found Portway Fish & Chips to be consistently bad over many years, even decades, in contrast the Star Fish Bar shop in Warminster is very good. (https://goo.gl/maps/RNdfwQ3yTP22)

The ownership changed some months ago. The food is now better.

I don't think the food was terrible. It was poor compared to others, but really there are some truly terrible fish n chip shops about and Portway was just poor. I still think the Leigh Park fish n chips by Tesco Express Leigh Park are the best in the area by a very long way followed by Dilton Marsh when it is open followed by the farm shop at Beckington.

I don't know if there is a connection with Warminster.

Just read views on Google, it is now owned by a family from Madeira who own two in Trowbridge (Frydays & Starfish). The Trowbridge shops are very good so will definitely be using it.

That makes sense.

My fish n chip shop of choice in Trowbridge has always been Frydays, though it too changed ownership a year or so ago, but it is still really good.

As Shizzy says, the shop is now owned by the ex owner of Frydays in Trowbridge, it is not connected to any other Star fish shops elsewhere, I tried some fish and chips a couple of weeks ago from there and was very pleased with them, as soon as I went into the shop I recognised him from Frydays and had a very nice chat with him.

Ah, now it makes more sense.

I'll definitely have to try out the improved High Street one then.

Thats a worry. I went there two weeks ago (following the thread previously about take aways) and the chips were rather tepid and stodgy and the fish way over cooked and rubbery (yet the batter was still glue like). I won't go back again.

I'll try Dilton next time.
