The weight and volume of traffic using Oldfield road needs monitoring!!
Yes, I have posted before on this subject but it is getting worse!
This morning a yellow Discordia lorry went by and returned! This is by no means the only lorry of this size to use this road!!
Maybe the council needs to rethink it's signage! Maybe it isn't clear enough, or am I wrong in thinking this type of lorry is under 7.5 tns!
Also, cars partly parked on pavements and even on the humps!! Makes getting in and out of driveways more difficult.
Is it time for your Medication or mine?

Traffic is getting heavier everywhere. Houses facing a main road or key distributor road will be affected more than most.

The solution in Oldfield Road is the provision of the bridge over the railway line for Mane Way to connect to Station Road through the new estate that is now under construction on the permitted site west of the Sailing Lake.

I think now is a good time for me to recontact the relevant people in County Hall to see what can be done to move the bridge along ...

If John Bowley has his way Oldfield Road will be the alternative Westbury By-Pass

Yes, but that route would not be a bypass of the town. It would just be a different route through the town.

its totally ridiculous along there . A large car transporter full of cars went along there a couple of weeks ago . Thats way more than the 7.5 tonne limit  .  There is often a really large lorry delivering lots of carpets on a regular basis right by the traffic calming. That also causes havoc  especially when drives into bridge court and then reverses out again to go back to station road
What i really have issue with it the numpties who go right through the middle of the traffic calming humps as speed..regardless of the fact you are coming off your or on  your drive on your own side of the road and they should be on the opposite side. They arent .. they are inches away  from your car because they are half on the wrong side of the road.. ( fed up of being sworn at or hand signal) its not just the young boy racers either... im 56 ive seen plenty much older that me racing through the middle . Those humps would have been better going right across the road like they are up in warrington. Much better..no one is racing to get through the middle AND its much better for your car

I agree and the answer is to STOP building housing estates where there is no local work!  It's commuters and on-line deliveries to these rural estates that cause the traffic congestion.

I think this road is already being used as an alternative route through Westbury!

.......and very few vehicles stick with the 20mph restriction! The Police would get some easy revenue from speeding cars and also from people using their mobile phones!

I hope you have a good result when you contact County Hall Russell, the bridge is badly needed.  [app]

But that's not going to happen, Wiltshire Council has decreed that there is a need for a further 600 houses in Westbury, not to supply the Westbury demand but the needs of West Wiltshire.
Westbury Town Council can object, and has done in the past, but Wiltshire Council make the planning decisions, these can and sometimes are called in by local councilors but the overriding decisions are taken by a government official. There is a short fall in housing and he has to ensure that it is met.

We definitely need more housing across the country. The problem is that builders are not keen on developing the needed infrastructure that comes with it, and government seem happy not to push it.

mmmmm. currently there are over 700 empty homes in Wiltshire that have been empty for more than 6 months.

I think we all know that building houses is all to do with boosting the economy. If there really is a shortage and the government is serious about resolving that shortage, why aren't empty factories etc. being converted to homes. These are on brown field sites often with infrastructure already in place. You've only got to drive through the White Horse Business Park to see the waste there. Imagine the number of flats that could be fitted into the old Virgin building or the old mill on County way Trowbridge.

Of course this wont happen because builders are only interested in profit and for them building on a green field site is far cheaper. The government is happy for this to continue because more profit for builders means more tax for them.

Oh and by the way,

there are over 216,000 empty homes across the whole of England!

That's 'cos the carpet chap lives there, so its a delivery, so 7.5ton limit doesnt apply. Good carpet fitter too, if you need one. I'd recommend him.
Ride fast, take chances. Just don't blame me when you fall off.

Work has started on the site of two of the pavilions, but that may be just to validate the planning permission, the third is rumoured to be taken on as a religious centre.
