Boris Johnson suggests that perhaps we should allow the virus to take it's course, "take it on the chin" without taking too many draconian measures. This Morning ITV, a discussion with the presenters.

Is he right, should it be the economy first and foremost, is this the right way to tackle the emergency, or is this "battle plan more like a surrender plan?"

Doesn't this seem like the Economy First and Screw the People approach?

That's always been the conservative way.

I think it's not a bad strategy. Although probably not really Boris' idea. There was a virologist on the TV suggesting the same thing.

Depends how many people you are comfortable with to let die.

If left, the virus will peak sharply and quickly with a very high number of people getting it. Some estimates are saying 50-80% of the population ( 30-50million). The death rate will be higher in this scenario as the high dependency wards wont cope and there are simply not enough respirators.

If the virus is delayed, it will peak with the same number of infections but over a longer period. The death rate will still be high but not as high as the strain on hospitals will be less over a slightly longer period.

BoJo will prefer the former as the economy will recover quicker. ::)

I was talking to a friend last night who is a staunch conservative and Brexiteer etc. He is in his late 70's and said the situation is worrying but more worrying for him is his share prices have dropped! Although he did say there was a silver lining as he was able to buy shares in Disney at a very low price which is always a good bet. ::)

I just shook my head and told him I hope he lives long enough to spend his invested money!

Bob, my parents and in laws are of the same mindset, what will be will be. I guess they come from a more resilient generation, not affected by the recent snowflakery fad.

It is survival of the fitness, natures way to cull the weak. It may sound callous to snowflakes but those that are dying were on their last legs anyway, all the virus has done is speed up the inevitable.

I always try to see humour in bad / sad times ...  ive just seen this poem and have chuckled myself silly  lol

The shelves are all so empty,😳
It really is a farce,
I ask myself the question,
How will I wipe my arse?😟💩

Do I turn to Ebay?
And buy some for a grand,
From a bloke in Rochdale,
That could be second hand.

Asda has no bog roll,
Tescos got none too,
What will I do tomorrow,
When I want a poo.💩🚽
Lidl's shelves are empty,
Aldi's stock is low,
I really need some andrex,
Please tell me where to go.🤔😱

Do I use a pair of socks?🧦
That might be alright,
But then I have a problem,
My feet would stink of sugare.💩

I could use a towel,
But that's not very fair,
My wife might use the same one,
When she drys her hair.

So when the time arrives,
And I know it's not a trump,
I'll be prepared and ready,
For my first paperless dump.💩

I will use an old poster,
I have of Miley Cyrus,
So you can kiss my fat clean arse,
Corona virus.🦠

Well, Sainsbury's Frome store loo roll aisle was stunningly EMPTY today, with totally empty shelves the whole length of the loo roll section.

I have not been in for a week, but I always find Lidl Westbury and Warminster stores always have loads of the stuff and, of course, most of the 2 towns will not bother looking there as they would not be seen dead inside Lidl ...    :)

It's so irrational.

So stop doing it, I might have to resort to the methods that Debs poem alludes to !!

A small number of the population are complete f'wits, hopefully this virus will thin them out.

What measure will be taken long term to stop the Chinese from infecting the world with another virus?

Well, Lidl Westbury still have some loo rolls, though the huge piles of 18 roll packs have gone. There are now just packs of 9 or 4 and they are limited to 2 packs per customer.

A few thoughts on the current crisis.

1. The lowest paid in society will end up doing the most during this outbreak, nurses, paramedics, drivers, delivery driver, care workers etc. whilst grossly overpaid footballers and celebs will contribute F all.

2. We hopefully may see the end of 'celeb' culture. Most are talent less and survive on the oxygen of publicity and posting pics of themselves at events or on holiday. With papers devoting column inches to more important issues, and the restriction of travel, and cancellation of events they may just wither on the vine, starved of publicity. Maybe society will take a look at itself and decide what is important in life.

3. Probably won't hear much more from Greta, after all the current situation we find ourselves in is what Extinction Rebellion are calling for, the public have had an insight into their vision of the world.
