Shusssh, slip us pack from under the counter
« on: December 09, 2008, 12:52:34 pm »
As from next May buying a packet of 'tabs' will be like buying a 'dirty' mag from under the counter.

I don't think this will make any difference at all. If Kids want a ciggy, they'll get one. Hiding them just makes them more exclusive. The more you hide something from Kids the more they want them. Proper education on the addiction/dangers they cause is the right way to go.

[app] Indeed Bob. Really though the Government should just grow some balls and ban cigarettes altogether, and alcohol whilst they are at it.

Heh, yes, alcohol would be a step to far. I would like to see the sale age raised to 21 for consumption off the premises though.

I'd also like to see smoking and drinking whilst on benefits and offence, 'cos if you can afford either you clearly have more cash than you need and thus shouldn't have benefits. Also, why do smokers think they should be allowed a 5 minute break every hour at work to have a fag and that they shouldn't have to make it back up?

Just been debating this on t'other forum. From what I can tell from the reply I got, and I hope I mis-read it, is that alcohol is good and cigarettes are bad. I like a bit of both - but I know they're both bad. I believe if one rule applies for tobacco it should also apply for alcohol.

Whilst true, should we also not apply the same rules that we do for other things that have similar anti-social issues but came along after society got all holier than thou? Marijuana for example, or indeed other similar stimuli.

Equal rights for all then. Does that mean non-smokers can have a break when they want as well. :-\

Just so long as they stand out in the cold, wind and rain when they do ay. ;D

I only said that about tobacco and alcohol as they're comparible as legal substances. There is an argument, of course, that all drugs should be legal and it should be the individual's choice...

So, whats next on the Government banned list? Fags and Booze, obviously. Fast food, chocolate, red bull, cars that do more than 70mph, motorbikes? Where will it end? Lets all move to Singapore (where it is a nanny state but at least they are open about it).

Nothing Pat, nothing. Just that the managers might think it strange when a non-smoker says he's just going outside in the rain/snow/wind/cold for 10 minutes for no other reason than taking a break.  ;D

Quote
1) Smoking, to any extent, is bad for your health, Alcohol, in moderation, can be benificial for your health.

2) You smoking stood next to me is bad for MY health. Me drinking stood next to you doesn't have to affect you at all.

So apart from one being bad and the other being good, and one having a direct effect on everyone in the vicinity whilst the other doesn't they're exactly the same.
Well i am reading it as one being good that's Alcohol and smoking bad !!! so yes i am sure
